Today Looks Beautiful
We had no idea two Easters ago that our extremely healthy and active Mamaw would pass from a massive heart attack just two weeks later.
We had no idea last Easter that our happy, strong Sheshe would be diagnosed with stage 4 cancer just a few weeks later.
Situations like this can make you really fear tomorrow… all the “what if’s” and possibilities can overwhelm your mind and make you live in a constant state of worry.
But the Bible tells us “Do not worry about tomorrow” for a reason. When that seems really hard to do, here’s the best way I’ve learned to accomplish it. I haven’t perfected it, and I still lapse into worry more often than I should, but I’ve learned the best way to take your mind off of the uncertainties of tomorrow is to be thankful for today.
I thank God for this Easter. I thank Him I got to spend it in church praising Jesus with my family. I’m thankful I got to share a wonderful meal with that family around a table in a dining room we’ve gathered in since before I was even born into the family.
You don’t have to find yourself in a situation like ours to take this lesson to heart.
Love your family. Be thankful for EVERY moment you have with them. Focus on everything and everyone you have with you THIS day, and praise the good Lord for it.
So what have I learned? Tomorrow takes back stage when today is in the spotlight.
And today looks beautiful.
