Paradox
Paradox
His wounds heal us.
How can that be true?
Such declarations contradict and confuse
Causing scholarly minds to distrust and dispute.
His punishment brings us peace.
He is God, but also a man.
He is king but he serves.
How can men understand?
He turns sin and guilt to righteousness,
Joy in the morning from sorrow in the night,
Good consequences from terrible circumstances,
And even death, he brings to life.
Our weakness he turns to strength.
He bestows his power to the powerless.
His forgiveness is why we fear him,
For his punishment brings us peace.
Just a glimpse of his unconditional love
Is all we can hope to discern.
And when its depth we begin to perceive,
We are left in awe, overwhelmed.
The mouthless heavens declare his praise.
Even the mindless rocks cry out to him.
Childlike faith fathoms better than educated man
There’s no splendor in praising a God we comprehend.
He is the great paradox of our universe
Human intellect is not capable of grasping.
Our minds are not designed to understand Him,
But our hearts were made to adore Him.
