Holy to the Lord
It is intriguing to read all of the requirements God established for priests to be able to enter the tabernacle where His presence would meet with them. As Exodus is coming to a close, one of the final steps for the priests was to wear a breastpiece “–the work of a skilled craftsman. There were twelve stones, one for each of the names of the sons of Israel.” This breastpiece was just one of several items they had to wear, including a sign that said “holy to the Lord.”
When I read that, I thought Wow… I wonder if Jacob knew.
Hundreds of years after Jacob had passed, God was still implementing materials to represent Jacob’s twelve sons. Was Jacob watching from Heaven? Did God let him see how his promises to him during his lifetime were still being fulfilled on Earth through his descendants?
I wonder often what all Mom knows about our lives. Does she get to witness the special moments in her childrens’ and grandchildrens’ lives? One of her grandsons was baptized just a few weeks ago. Did she get to see it?
Sometimes I just wish I knew that she knew. It would bring me peace to know that God lets her know, or perhaps even lets her see, the things we want so desperately to tell her.
Then another thought hit me. I wonder if God feels that same way about us?
Does He just wish we knew what He has done and is doing in us? How many Christians walk around feeling unworthy to enter the church doors or scared to share our faith because we have no idea what God has already established within us?
Listen to how Peter describes believers: “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
So many of us are still wandering around in the darkness because we do not feel we are worthy of walking into the light.
If you find yourself in that mindset, let me tell you something. If you have put your faith in Jesus, then You are holy to the Lord. And you don’t even have to wear a gold engraved sign to prove it.
Hebrews 10:9 says, “Then he (Jesus) said, ‘Here I am, I have come to do your will’… 10 Any by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ once for all.”
Do you know that? Do you know that God sees you as holy because you accepted the sacrifice of his son?
You may not feel holy, but God’s truth is not based on feelings. It’s true whether you feel it or not. And these passages leave no room for doubt.
And when you realize, when you know, that Jesus Christ made you holy, doesn’t it make you feel a little lighter?
It should.
It should make you want to share about it.
Because he called you out of darkness into his wonderful light so that you may declare his praises.
You are his special possession.
And God wants you to know it.
But guess what? He wants your friends to know it too. He wants your family to know it. Your coworkers. Even your enemies.
And Jesus has made you worthy to be the one to tell them.
